SCS Jewelers – Why IGI Cannot Fetch Data for My Diamonds

Important: This article applies only to clients under SCS Global Services.
If you are not an SCS certified Producer, Handler, or Jeweler, this content does not apply to your workflow.

In some cases, users may notice that IGI is unable to fetch diamond data after uploading parcels into iTraceiT. This can happen even when everything appears correct on the user side and all actions have been completed as usual. Because the IGI data connection involves several systems, identifying the root cause requires checking multiple steps in the certification and data transmission process.

This article explains why IGI may not be able to fetch your diamond data, what each system is responsible for, and how to resolve the issue.

Understanding How IGI, SCS and iTraceiT Exchange Data

1. IGI retrieves data from SCS, not from iTraceiT directly

IGI does not fetch diamond data directly from iTraceiT. Instead, the process is:

  • The user requests SCS certification or validation in iTraceiT
  • iTraceiT sends the certification request to SCS
  • SCS validates the data and prepares it for IGI
  • IGI then retrieves the certified data from SCS
  • Once IGI receives the data, it becomes accessible inside their system

If SCS has not yet processed or validated the stone, IGI cannot display the data.

2. The diamond must be marked as SCS during grading at IGI

IGI only makes stones available through their API if the diamond was flagged as SCS at the moment of grading.

If a diamond was not marked as SCS during grading:

  • IGI will not expose it to SCS
  • SCS cannot pass it to iTraceiT
  • The data will not appear in IGI’s system when queried

In this case, IGI needs to manually enable the stones after receiving a list of parcel references from the user or SCS.

3. Errors in the file transmitted from iTraceiT to SCS

When iTraceiT sends the certification data to SCS, a validation file is produced.

If the validation file contains errors:

  • SCS cannot process the diamond
  • The origin and certification data will not be transmitted
  • IGI will not be able to fetch anything

In such cases, SCS will usually generate an error file indicating what needs to be corrected.
The user or support team must review this file and correct the data before resubmitting.

4. Temporary maintenance or system delays

If iTraceiT or SCS is undergoing maintenance, temporary delays may occur, resulting in:

  • Data not being transmitted immediately
  • Certification requests appearing stuck
  • IGI being unable to fetch data temporarily

Once maintenance is completed, the systems synchronize normally again. A short wait is sometimes all that is needed.

5. Missing SCS certification request in iTraceiT

IGI cannot fetch data for a parcel unless the SCS certification or validation request has been submitted in iTraceiT.

You must verify that:

  • A certification or validation request was made
  • The parcel status shows as Certified or Validated
  • No errors occurred during submission

If the request has not been made or is incomplete, IGI cannot retrieve the corresponding data.

6. Transmission issues between systems

Occasionally, synchronization between SCS and iTraceiT may fail.
When this happens:

  • iTraceiT sends the file
  • SCS receives it but cannot process it
  • Data does not appear in IGI

This requires internal review by the SCS technical team.
Once resolved, data begins flowing again.

How to Resolve IGI Data Fetching Issues

To fix the problem effectively, follow these steps:

  1. Confirm that SCS certification or validation was submitted in iTraceiT

  2. Check whether the diamonds were marked as SCS during IGI grading

  3. Ask SCS whether an error file was generated for the affected diamonds

  4. Verify that maintenance or delays are not affecting data transmission

  5. Provide IGI with the list of diamonds if they were not flagged as SCS during grading

  6. Wait for SCS to confirm that the transmission has been restored

Once all systems are aligned, IGI will be able to fetch the data correctly.

If IGI cannot fetch your diamond data, the issue usually originates from the data exchange between SCS and IGI, not from iTraceiT itself. This can happen when certification requests are incomplete, validation files contain errors, stones were not marked as SCS during grading, or transmission delays occur between systems. By confirming the certification request, reviewing any error files, and ensuring that IGI has the correct SCS status for each diamond, the issue can be resolved quickly and the data will appear as expected.
