SCS Jewelers – Mandatory Fields for Jewelry Stage
When importing parcels or creating jewelry items in iTraceiT, jewelers must provide specific information to ensure that stones and finished jewelry pieces remain traceable and eligible for SCS certification.
Important: This article applies only to clients under SCS Global Services. If you are not an SCS certified Producer, Manufacturer, or Jeweler, this content does not apply to your workflow.
Jewelers have a defined set of mandatory fields required to identify jewelry units and support certification, while other fields are optional and can be used to enrich product information.
This article explains which fields are mandatory and which are optional for jewelers, and clarifies how this information is used during SCS certification and downstream transparency.
Correctly completing the required fields at the jeweler stage is essential, as jewelers are the final actor responsible for submitting certification requests in iTraceiT.
Jeweler Profile
Jewelers are responsible for creating the final product level data and for requesting SCS certification for jewelry pieces. The information entered at this stage links finished jewelry to its source stones and completes the traceability journey.
Jeweler data is critical, as it represents the certified output that will be validated and potentially shared downstream.
Mandatory fields for import
Jewelers must complete all fields required to identify the jewelry unit and describe the finished product. These fields are mandatory to create a valid jewelry parcel in iTraceiT and cannot be left empty.
The mandatory fields for jewelers are:
- Parcel reference (jewelry_serial_no)
- Scs_jewelry_production_date
- Scs_jewelry_type
- Scs_jewelry_grading_lab_code
- Scs_jewelry_grading_lab_report_id
- Stones No.
- scs_jewelry_description
- scs_jewelry_primary_metal
- All the fields of the manufacturing stage
- All the fields of the growing stage
These fields ensure that each jewelry piece can be uniquely identified and properly described for certification purposes.
Additional required input during merge
When creating a jewelry item from one or multiple source parcels, jewelers must also specify how much material is used from each source during the merge process.
This requires entering:
- weight (amount of parcel used)
This information is mandatory during the merge step to preserve traceability and origin percentages.
Optional fields
Optional fields allow jewelers to enrich the product story or add internal references. These fields are not required for import and do not block certification if left empty.
Examples of non mandatory fields include:
- country
- scs_weight_mother_total_grown
- scs_production_location
- scs_weight_mother_total_cored
- scs_producer_id
- scs_mother_stone_id
- scs_date_of_receipt_from_cutter
- scs_cutter_code
- scs_cutter_location
- scs_production_date
- scs_stone_type_code
- scs_jewelry_producer
- scs_stone_report_ids
Most of these fields are automatically inherited from upstream parcels or populated by iTraceiT and should not be manually modified.
Certification requirements
At the jeweler level, parcels are submitted for SCS certification directly from iTraceiT. Certification can only proceed once all mandatory jeweler fields are completed and all upstream data is present and valid.
If required information is missing or incorrect, the certification request will be rejected until the data is corrected.
For jewelers, mandatory fields focus on identifying finished jewelry and describing its composition to support SCS certification. Optional fields provide additional context but are not required to create a valid jewelry parcel. Completing the mandatory fields accurately ensures smooth certification, full traceability and compliance with SCS requirements.
